About Us
ACAP (African Caribbean Achievement Project) is a grassroots charity based in Bradford, West Yorkshire. Founded in 1995, we emerged in response to the systemic barriers and educational inequalities faced by Black children. Our work began with a focus on improving academic outcomes, but over the years, we have expanded our mission to create lasting change in our community.
Today, ACAP provides a broad range of services that go beyond education. We deliver health and social care programmes, mentoring and advocacy support, women’s health projects, outdoor activities, STEM initiatives, employment and IT training, and arts and cultural projects—all designed to uplift and celebrate the contributions of African and African Caribbean communities. Our initiatives create empowerment, inclusion, and community well-being, ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
At ACAP, we continue to challenge inequalities, amplify voices, and build a stronger future for generations to come.
We work in an Inclusive way
Our services are open to everyone, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all members of the community. We take pride in creating a welcoming and supportive environment where diversity is valued and respected.
Empowering Through Education
We support people with mentoring, advocacy, and learning programmes to break barriers and unlock potential.
Health & Wellbeing for All Service Members
Our social care, mental health, and well-being initiatives have led to a healthier, more supported community.
Celebrating Cultural Heritage in Bradford
Through arts and cultural projects, we honour African and Caribbean heritage, increasing pride and belonging.
Hope & light for ethnically & Culturally Diverse Communities.
ACAP is collaborating with Bradford District & Craven Mind, Staying Put, the Girlington Project, and other partners to develop and enhance culturally sensitive mental health services. This initiative is part of a long-term, 3–5 year project aimed at addressing community needs and reducing health inequalities. Stay tuned for updates!
Improving Health services for black women.
For the past two years, ACAP has been dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Black women in the district. Our diverse activities include swimming, a walking group, gym classes, fitness workshops, and outdoor pursuits like camping and nature walks. Following an extensive consultation in late 2024, our program is evolving to better meet community needs. Stay tuned for new activities, which will be regularly updated on our homepage.
STEM presentations at The Science & Media Museum.
We run a monthly science club for young people and actively participate in STEM workshops and presentations at Bradford’s Science & Media Museum, where our young people lead the education of audiences about the groundbreaking contributions of Black scientists and inventors.
Many visitors are amazed by the wide range of innovations pioneered by Black people in science. Our workshops are engaging, dynamic, and led by young educators who inspire and inform.
our history, our story in three generations.
We are proud of our intergenerational project, which brought together diverse voices to create Windrush: Three Generations. This book is a heartfelt collection of personal stories, historical insights, and reflections that honour the resilience, achievements, and cultural impact of the Windrush generation and their descendants.
The book highlights the immense contributions of the Windrush generation to British society, from shaping the workforce and public services to influencing culture, politics, and education.
By purchasing Windrush: Three Generations, you are directly supporting ACAP’s ongoing initiatives to empower and uplift African and Caribbean communities. Your contribution helps us continue our work in education, advocacy, and cultural preservation. Copies are available at ACAP offices or online via Amazon here
